Wings Tutorial

Create your own fairy wings with these easy tutorial.

I make different kind of fairy wings, with different products, but one of my favorite are  made from transparencies pages. If you have a program like I have the only thing that you have to do in select the wings that you would like to do, change colors or print with the original colors that the wings had.

·        First: Do not cut the wings out of the wing sheet; work on the page as a whole. I put a thick even coat of Fimo, decorating gel on the printed side of the transparencies, It’s the matte side.

·        I do all the wings on the pages at a time.I know I’ll use them eventually. But if you like to make them separately, you can cut your favorite wings letting a border around.

·        Second: After you coat them with the fimo decorating gel evenly, use an embossing gun to fire the gel flat on the table.

·        Third:  If you going to add cellophane wrapping paper to your wings, spray a light coat of spray adhesive on that same printed side that you just fired and then apply a layer of mother of pearl cellophane wrapping paper and press it down hard, push air bubbles out.

·        Fourth: Lightly fire the cellophane paper. It will bubble a bit and make some cool effects, but be careful; you don’t want to ruin it, do it lightly.

·        Now turn it over to the glossy side and start applying more fimo gel only to the raise segments and not to the vein area of wing, leave them, as is, just glossy transparency.

·        Then you fire that on with your embossing gun (hold it about 2-3 inches away from the wing when firing.

·        I have not cut the transparency sheet apart jet; you will have better success if you cut them out later.

·        After cut, put a wire (24 gauge) any color you like, on the top edge of the upper wings with fabric-tac glue. After it dries, I then coat the wire and edges of the wings and the cellophane with a little fimo decorating gel and fire it on so it will be permanent also.

I also add a second coat of Fimo or some times I use 3D lacquer to the segments, not the veins, (and fire that on again if use fimo). you could even put a light coat of the fimo gel on the cellophane on the back side of the wing and fire it without hurting the iridescent effect of cellophane.

Finished wing before wire. They curve naturally but I still apply wire to the top edge, you could put a wire on the top edge of the lower wing if want it more posable. Very transparent,  yes.

Finally, you could decorate your wings with glitters, mini-bead, filigrees, and feathers adding to your wings more beauty .
